For me, the conversation about menu inspirations was a pretty interesting one about what shapes place and identity. It wasn’t just about what was well known locally in QLD (sugar cane, seafood, macadamia, ginger etc) but it was also a conversation about cultural icons and markers (the Ekka Strawberry Sundae). My silly concept suggestions for “Savage Garden” salad, “Cane Toad” froglegs, or “Powderfinger”sherbet didn’t quite fly. . .but, I’m still hopeful for another chance. Though seriously, a music and lyric tangent for menu design could be fascinating!
